It has been a while since I last wrote an entry not concerned with a trip or OP. I don’t know if I’ve really been that busy, or just lazy. I just got caught up with the past two weeks of OP journals. I need to submit those to Tecwyn before the end of the day.
We have been playing a lot of cards. Sometimes we don’t feel like going out, or sometimes just waiting for meals. Standard games rarely cut it. We started with ordinary golf. Then Swaff taught us golf niner, where the 9’s all mean something different. Then we moved on to extreme golf, using ten cards and two decks instead of just four cards. Recently we came up with golf poker, where you follow the golf rules, but try to make the best five-card hand. If a week goes by and we don’t have a new game to play, things start getting routine. We’re thinking about looking up how to play rummy. I remember playing Michigan Rummy while visiting the grandparents in Florida, but that was years ago. I’m sure I can google it.
Swaff, Cain and Hannah are in London this weekend. They left Thursday night and don’t get back until Monday morning. Today was rainy and very windy in Bangor. Hopefully London wasn’t as treacherous. Last week group of Londoners visited. Some of them didn’t seem too impressed. Two weeks ago Zach and a few girls came to visit from London. They seemed pretty desperate to get away from the city for a weekend. That was evident by the £68 train ticket they bought. For £69 they could have gotten the ticket and a discount card good for 1/3 off any future tickets. We had the Anglesey trip that Saturday, so they tagged along. We found out that they will still be around on the 21st so we can spend the night there before leaving on spring break.
Speaking of spring break, our itinerary is nearly set. We booked most of our flights about three weeks ago, but we ran into trouble with Ryanair. The website didn’t want to accept our credit cards. We leave for Ireland with Tecwyn on the 15th of March. We spend a few days traveling around, including Dublin on St. Patrick’s Day. We return to Bangor on Thursday, and then take the train to London the next day. We’ll spend the night at Vandon House with the rest of the Central students. Our flight leaves London on Saturday evening for Amsterdam. The London students are also leaving for break on the 22nd. After a few days in the Netherlands, we take advantage of a buy one get one free Valentine’s Day sale to fly to Prague in the Czech Republic. As part of the same sale, we fly into Bratislava, Slovakia. Our expectations are pretty high here. I’ve never really heard of anyone going there, so we figure it will probably turn out to be a little known secret. When we’ve had enough of Bratislava, we will take a train or a coach to Vienna, Austria. Next comes our most expensive flight, from Vienna to Paris. We are hoping to either take a train, or maybe rent a car to go see the beaches of Normandy. I just watched Saving Private Ryan to prep myself.
Tecwyn had to assist us in booking our next flight. From Paris, we fly to Spain; just north of Barcelona on April Fools Day. This is where things get a little fuzzy. When the guys get back from London on Monday, we are going to have to decide on our last flight. We are looking at one from Valencia back to London on Friday the 4th. We won’t have to be back for class until the 7th, so we might spend a few more days in London. The students will be back, because they only get one week off. I can’t imagine we’re going to want to do a whole lot after three weeks of solid traveling. We plan to spend most of our time in Spain on the beach, so hopefully the April weather cooperates with us.
A few of us are hoping to go mountain biking in Betws-y-coed. We’ll have to take a bus, and rent bikes once we get there. Today was pretty rainy, so the trails might be pretty muddy.
