Sally was planning to take us sailing today, but there was no wind. Instead of drifting along in the strait, John and Malcom took us sea level traversing, while Sally had to stay in the office. After packing up all the gear we would need for the day, we headed off towards Trearddur Bay. We drove right by the car park where Chris got his parking ticket during our kayak adventure.
Once we arrived near Rhoscolyn, we put on the rest of our gear and headed down to the water. The focus of the day was risk assessment. I think John and Malcom may have
been a bit too cautious with us. It seems like most of the Conway staff work primarily with younger kids, and often seem to treat us the same way. We did a bit of traversing while gorge scrambling, so we kind of knew what we were getting ourselves into. I was glad to have the safety rope while maneuvering the slot, although I’m confident I could have done without it. It seemed like we spent a lot of time waiting for other group members to traverse a small section. We would go, one at a time over a five to ten foot segment, and then have to wait until others finished before starting the next bit. After a short intro, I would have rather been given a bit more freedom to go along at my own
pace. I think everyone in the group is capable of determining what risks they can handle. It got plenty warm with all of our gear, so the water looked quite tempting. At the end of the day, we all took a plunge from about 20 feet up. I was the first to jump. I wanted to go from higher up, but John and Malcom’s over protectiveness wouldn’t allow it. Aside from the slow pace, I enjoyed the day. I would definitely spend another day there if I could get transportation.
